Hello all . I am carrying out some Family tree research on behalf of a Cousin . She is very curious to know her G reat Aunts probate records. This is a brick wall in her search so far . Therefore if anyone here could find such a record we would be most grateful . The Lady in question was very wealthy! . Louisa Beatrice Smythe was Born in 1885 in Egremont cheshire in the UK . Louisa Married a Alexander Mckenzie in London and then they emigrated to Canada Edmonton. It seems she lived a long life and Died in 1990 in Edmonton . We appreciate any help here and thank you .

Here is a link to information about wills and probate in Edmonton, Alberta. It includes phone numbers for the office that would search for the probate info: Alberta Probate Records • FamilySearch I am pasting in an excerpt below:

Wills and Estates[edit | edit source]

There is no central registry for wills in Alberta; wills are kept at the Court House in the judicial district where probate was granted. The information held is Grants of Probate, Letters of Administration, and Wills. To determine in which judicial district an ancestor died, write to:

    Succession Duties Department

    Public Trustees’ Office

    10365 - 97 Street

    Edmonton, Alberta T5J 3Z8

    Telephone: (780) 427-2744

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:15 am-12:00 pm, 1:00 pm-4:30 pm

    There is a search fee.

For Wills Probated in Edmonton[edit | edit source]

The Clerk of the Surrogate Court

    Main Floor, Law Courts Building

    1A Sir Winston Churchill Square

    Edmonton, Alberta T5J 0R2

    Telephone: (780) 422-2434

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:15 am-4:30 pm

There are family trees in Ancestry.com with quite a bit of information, although nothing from probate. Here is a link to one, which you may already have seen: Ancestry Person It includes her death date.

It appears you will have to reach out to the probate offices; it doesn't like they are posting probate estates or wills from the 1990s on-line.
