Best Man Statements in Norway

I have located a best man statement for my ancestors, Ole Halvorsen and Anne Olsdatter on 29 Feb 1803 in Gjerstad, Aust-Agder, Norway. Since this is a new source for me, I would like to know what the purpose of such a statement was and what that record contained. I am including a copy of that record. Thank you so much for your help in this matter.

    I don't really know what you mean by "statement"?

    After the marriage information (penned by the priest) it is signed by the "Forlovere" (witnesses; a groomsman and a bridesman)

    Nills Gislesøn Trÿdal & Torl/Tore Jenssøn Trÿdal.

    Without witnesses, no marriage possible.
