jacksoncheryl7 April 2

I am looking for a Maren Sophie Hansdatter Born 11 Feb 1842, in the 1860 census . I have found her with her parents in the 1845 census, in the 1850 census also in the 1855 census. But she is not with the family in the 1860 census. The census I think was made in Feb of each of those years. So she would have just turn 18 years old. I found a moving out record when she was 18 3/4 years in the church record in the parish of Nørre Ørslev, where she is moving to Nykøbing on 6 Nov 1860. So I just can't find her in another census.

I am traveling to Denmark with my brother and his wife, cousin and myself. On May 16 this year. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a guide we could hire to shows around the area of Nørre Ørslev Church Building (parish) and city, Falster Sønder, Maribo, Denmark. I would be very appreciative with help or suggestion. I have been told the Parishes are locked and you need someone to open them.

I don't see where to put this in the public post. If you can help me with this. Thank you

From Cheryl Jackson

    Last secure identification. @jacksoncheryl7

Confirmation: 30. Marts 1856 in Horreby Kirke [inscribed in Nørre Ørslev Churchbook]

Name: Maren Sophie Hansen af Nørre Ørslev.

Father: Hans Andersen /Rummere/ [/.../ means the name is not official, but a nickname]

Mother: hustru Thrine Larsdatter af Nørre Ørslev.

    Født i Nørre Ørslev d. 11. Februar 1842.

    Kundskab & Opførsel: god.

Vaccineret 6. Juni 1842 af Købke. [might be important for later identification]

    Source: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21583894#354354,70343937

The information in the "afgangsliste" from Nørre Ørslev Sogn is a little problematic.

Contrary to all the other information on the page is actually says that Maren Sophie Hansen moved "FROM" Nykøbing 6. November 1860 TO Hans Rommer (her father) in Nørre Ørslev. [Scribal error or inserted in the wrong list?]

    Source (page 41, nr 173): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21583894#354366,70344269

This could be her in Nykøbing Falster at the census 1. Februar 1860:

Census 1860: Maribo, Falsters Sønder, Nykøbing Falster Købstad, Nykøbing Falster, Slotsgadens Rode, Nr. 16, 183 - F3, FT-1860, D6218.

Stine Jensdatter  28  Ugift  Tjenestepige    Ønslev Sogn, Maribo Amt

So either this is another Maren Hansen OR it is Maren Sophie Hansen, who then went HOME to her father in November 1860.

    Afgangsliste Nørre Ørslev Sogn.

Maren Sofie Hansen. Age 15. Tienende Jungclausen. Til Øverup [in Tingsted Sogn] 1. Maj 1858!

NB: Can't finding her arriving or leaving in Tingsted Sogn, but it is very likely her!

NB: The "Maren Hansen" that leaves from Nørre Ørslev in 1861 i Nykøbing and again in 1866 to Idestrup is the daughter of Hans Olsen Renner [not Hans Andersen /Rommer/]. She is born 20. December 1840 in Nørre Ørslev [wrong one].

Other possible Maren Sophie Hansen, that can be disproved.....

NB: Tracing here we find out she is born 26. September 1841 in Nørre Ørslev.....[wrong one] and they are married in Kippinge Sogn 25. October 1872.

    Another candidate:

    Census 1870: Nørre Ørslev Sogn.

    Ole Jacobsen. 31 years.

Maren Hansen. 28 years. BUT born in Horbelev....

If so it could have been nice with the information that she emigrated to the US in 1862.........(so I avoided searching for clues beyond that date).

    @ Niels Just Rasmussen

Thank you so much for find this information for me. I really believe that you found her in the 1860 census thank you so much.

In the parish record I found this record it has the same person she is going to work for as the record you found but what do you thing of the place. What is in the last column. Does it say mormon?

    https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17224474#205239,38939065 it is item 185/271

Also in the Nørre Ørslev Parish record of 1860 there is somthing written in the very last column could you tell me what it says

    https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17224474#205239,38939068

Nørre Ørslev Sogn, Hovedministerialbog 1853- 1884, item 173 on 188/271

Yes she emigrated in1862 and married in 1863. What is the Hamburg Auswandererlisten 1850- 1934 that is the spelling on her birth record.

The youngest child Anders Hansen emigrated in Butlerville Utah. He married just before leaving Denmark or just after getting in Utah.

Her death date is 05 Jul 1912 burial is alright too.

Her sister Ane Hansen married Jens Larsen /Snedker/ (I think the name means Carpenter) (They had at least 9 children) and brother Christian Hansen (I do not thing he got married. ) that did not emigrating. I don't know how to tell you how grateful I am for all the work you have done for me. It means the world to me. Thank you! You are amazing. I will get with that man in Nørre Ørslev Thanks for that too. I will appreciate any help you can give me on understanding these records better.

    Thanks

    Hi Cheryl.

How interesting that the "hovedministerialbook" differs from the information in the "kontraministerialbook".

Here is actually says that Maren Sophie Hansen moved from Jungclausen to Systofte Sogn 1st of May 1858 [where Øverup in crossed out and something unreadable is written on top]. Unclear if it says "mormon" or "moderen" [the mother] to the far right.

She doesn't appear as arriving or leaving in Systofte Sogn either.....

It actually would make more sense for her to leave for Øverup in Tingsted Sogn, as her mother was from that parish. She could have gone to work for some of her family.....but it is impossible to know, when she doesn't appear in any of the lists....

For the time of her becoming a mormon; how you found her in one of the L.D.S. books for conferences and/or branches in Denmark??

The original to the 1860 Census of the"Maren Hansen" in Nykøbing Falster lists her as Lutheran, so if it is her, she must become mormon between 1860 and 1862? [or perhaps she kept it a secret at work?]

Maren Sophie Hansen was confirmed Lutheran in 1856, but for her younger brothers I found this!!

Confirmed: 30. Marts 1859 i Nørre Ørslev Skole (school).

Name: Christian Hansen af Nørre Ørslev.

    Father: indsidder Hans Andersen Romer.

Mother: hustru Trine Larsen i Nørre Ørslev.

Instead of grades it says: Mormon.

    Source (page 3): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21583894#354353,70343915

NB: He does appear as "mormon" in the 1860 census as a servant for Lars Rasmussen at Kringelborg in Idestrup Sogn.

    Source: https://www.danishfamilysearch.dk/cid14594071

Confirmed: 26. Marts 1861 in Nørre Ørslev Skole (school).

Name: Anders Hansen af Nørre Ørslev.

    Father: indsidder Hans Andersen Romer.

Mother: hustru Trine Larsen i Nørre Ørslev.

Instead of listed grades it says: Mormon

    Source (page 4): https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21583894#354353,70343916

NB: When did he emigrate to Utah?!

Hamburg Auswandererlisten 1850- 1934 is an index of people leaving the port of Hamburg in Germany to emigrate!

For the original ship-lists I think you need ancestry to see them...

Good to hear you found a guide for Nørre Ørslev!!

    Cheers

    Niels

"Also in the Nørre Ørslev Parish record of 1860 there is somthing written in the very last column could you tell me what it says".

I think it just says she is also in the Tilgangsliste as nr. 149 [where the entry is put in the right place]

    Which was this one: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17224474#205239,38939042

So it is confirmed she left Nykøbing Falster and moved back to Nørre Ørslev and her father 6. November 1860.
