FamilySearch identified the most complete online indexes for birth, marriage, and death information.

I just found Scotland Guided Research and I know there is a world of information just waiting to be found. Happy searching.

With all due respect, I think the order of listing the resources is quite unhelpful. It would be generally agreed that ScotlandsPeople is the most important website for Scotland (especially post 1855), yet ScotlandsPeople is ranked well down the list, behind some obscure and localized resources. Next in importance would be the indexes at FamilySearch, Ancestry, FMP, MyHeritage.

For births, ScotlandsPeople is listed 8th, behind records for Catholics (~ 20% of the population today, but more like 5% before the Irish famine), Dundee and Forfarshire/Angus (the 17th most populated county as of 2021) and newspapers.
