Hello all,

I am just wondering if anyone has any idea on how to access or locate foster child records from Northern Ireland in the 1930's-1940's. My grandmother was a foster child, and I'm trying to locate her actual birth name and birth parents so I can add them all to my family tree.

I have reached out to the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland to get any form of assistance regarding this issue, but they only stated that the General Registrar Office of Northern Ireland holds all Birth, Marriages, Death and Adoption records for Northern Ireland dating from 1864. They also provided the following link.

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2021-09/your-family-tree-series-information-leaflet-25-general-register-office.pdf

I would be grateful for any assistance/advice offered to me so I can find my family.

Thank you.

@Hayter David and @Colin Ramsbottom are either you able to give some guidance for this research in Northern Ireland?

That looks like the best starting point.

Awesome. Thank you both so much for this. My grandmother has been an enigma to try and locate.
