In family review, how do we handle hotels, etc.
In old censuses the hotels and state hospitals and other large institutions were indexed as one "family" are we supposed to index each person separately now? This is not in any instructions I could find, though I may have missed it. Thanks.

@ ME Doran What is the hotel or institution is two or more pages?

@Tamara Stevenson, if it is continued from a page, go ahead and review as you know that it is in the same institution. If it continues on to the next page and it gives you the option to review it, then keep going, making sure it is still the institution.

I know that the instructions say to treat these as a single household, but I looked up the Richmond State Hospital in Wayne County, Indiana and it is 65 images long. Not people, images. So how would that be handled? Each image a household? One gigantic household of all 65 pages? It can't be reviewed in an hour. Could one person get all of those images and just review away until the end? I noticed family review does not let you go to a previous page, unless the name is the same.
Just curious,
Daile

@DSereduick, thank you for your comment. We know that it can be many pages in these types of households. When we can tell it is of the same household by other information on the page, then just do as much as you can. What you have done will be saved and other reviewers will pick up where you have left off and it will keep going as such. We don't need to worry about going to the previous page. I hope that this has answered your question and concerns.

So the way I read the article referenced in this conversation is that if they have different room numbers they are different families. The hotel that I reviewed in Oregon had one address, but different room numbers. I decided to put them in different families. Unfortunately the program let me do the first record, but then skipped the rest of the page. I would not recommend that method.

For cases where there are different room number, I select “Report a Problem” and then choose “This household can not be group together” and in the text box I explain why. I then hit the back arrow by “Family Review” and save & exit and come in again hoping to get a more normal page.

This can be confusing and an interesting result as has been pointed out. Please read the below article to understand more clearly how to tell whether to review as one single household or different households. Thank you for all that you do! We just do the best we can and if we are unsure, then we can always back out.
