Surnames...repeated Instead of dash - 1950 census name review
I came across a census page where the Surname for every family member was entered on instead of dash or blank. I'm unable to find an answer using the search. I decided to not work on that page.
What is the correct way to handle that? 1) Select Match or 2) Enter correction with a dash or 3) something else?

@justme kr, if I am understanding you correctly, the census document has the dash for the surname, but the box that is popping up has the surname already entered in the AI box. Just go ahead and leave the name as it is in the box if it is correct to go with the family if you run across this again.

Sorry, no, that's not what it is..... Hmmm does this help?
The census taker entered the surname on every !ine.
I don't recall what the AI computer put in the suggestion box.
How is this handled?

@justme kr, if the census taker entered the surname on every line of the family it belonged to, just verify it is spelled correctly in each case. Make sure the box matches the name in each family member.
The census taker could do whatever they wanted to as far as the surname, either putting it in for each family member or putting a dash to indicate it was the same name as the head of the household.
I hope I understood your question. The goal is putting the family together correctly and making sure names are spelled correctly.
