Americanized names and the Netherlands

1. Is Angeline a common name in the Netherlands or is it an Americanized replace for something else. If so what would that something else be in the mid 1800s?

2. What would be an Americanized name to replace Lummigje in the mid 1800s?

Thank You

Mark

    1. It sounds Americanized. The Dutch equivalent would be Angela, Angelina or Angelica.
    2. Lummigje is equivalent to the Dutch name Lammigje or Lamberta, a female version of Lammert or Lambert. An English translation could be Bertha.

Only as a proposal;@Mark-Robert , i would consider Lammigje as first name, as it is a common (first)name in this timeframe. If you enter Lammigje as first name at "wiewaswie" it feeds 30.000 hits. You can also prompt it as first name in search/records on this site, set country Netherlands, not entering any_familyname (probably it will suggest some alternate spellings in the results.)

It is my opinion that the name on the birth or baptism certificate is the right name of the person. It is possible to add other name forms in the Alternative section of the vital record of a person.

As an example in Belgium, a person would be born as Jean François (French time 1797 - 1815), marry as Joannes Franciscus (common use names from Latin) and die as Jan Frans (when the clerck uses Flemish names). All these names are translations of the same name.
