Name Review 1950 census
If the first surname on the page has ditto marks - how do I find the surname?

In Name Review, we are only concerned with what we see on the page. The Surnames will be picked up and the families connected during Family Review.

It would be helpful to have a back/forward button for the images. I have seen issues where the computer indexing doesn't recognize that the family continues on to the next page or started on a previous one, so any time that happens will likely result in missing people on the census.

Have you offered this suggestion by using the Feedback function?

I also thought that we would be adding surnames for the dashes in Family Review. But, now that I'm trying to help with family review, I checked the "field notes" for family review. The notes say to leave the surname blank if it is blank. No mention whatsoever about if the field has a dash. I certainly WANT to add the surnames. What should I do? Guess I'll go back to name or header review until someone answers.

Perhaps I'd better enter my above comment as a new question or it will not stand out as a Family Review question.

@withthecia have you looked at the example on this page? It shows the surnames being entered when there is a dash on the record. https://www.familysearch.org/en/info/1950-us-census-project-frequently-asked-questions

Thanks, ME Doran. I'd forgotten to look there, although, frankly you have to read between the lines to figure it out from the FAQ. Previously, when I had tried Family Review, the surnames must have been automatically copied to family members, not forcing me to think about the issue. It worked. So, my little grey cells didn't kick in! Later, when I ran across families who didn't have their surnames copied down the whole family, I was at a lost. Too funny. Sorry to waste your time.

@withthecia You have certainly not wasted my time. There are many different places to find answers to problems with this project and it can be very confusing. Every question that you ask will help someone else who needs the same information. Thank you for your service.
