Correcting Dates in Headers

I'm reviewing headers, and the dates are not consistent. Some are 4 - 1, 1950. Some are 4/1, 1950. Some are April 1, 1950. Some are not. None are 1 April 1950. Only a few are transcribed well by the automation, so most need to be corrected in some way or another. In most cases, the intent is clear.
When I'm correcting them, should I retain the original formats, or standardize to April 1, 1950, or?

@Bonnie Cresap, regarding your question about the dates you asked above. There are no specific instructions for this. Just correct it to what it looks like on the image, they don't need to be standardized to anything specific.
