Also reviewing headers.. the Enumerator default appears to be last, first. But in every instance is says signature which as printed is first last.. Please advise.
1) I would have to concur with GSunderland on header info that enumerators default names on right side of header (when read by the computer) appears to be <last name>, <first name>. Likewise for crew leader name as well on right side of header. For all header info for name, reading name as displayed should be used vs assuming name is last name, first name format.
Example : Sally E. Smith
Computer will display name read as Sally, E. Smith, when it should be Sally E. Smith without comma.
a) Also it appears that section E. name has the same issue of reading the first item as last name and then comma. Example for Grand View Hotel, computer displaying name as Grand, View Hotel.
2) On header left side info, If state name is abbreviated, should it be full name or as on screen?
3) In regards to dates, should they be as shown on form (i.e sometimes 4/5, other times April 5 and other times Apr 5) for the various fields on header.
@GSunderland, thank you for the question of the last, and first. Please leave out coma and put the names in the correct field for first name and correct for last name.
@Thomas Vilfroy, yes, regarding the coma, please leave the coma out and enter the name in the proper field.
Regarding the state name, Verify the state was spelled correctly as recorded in the box. But do not expand abbreviations. If box was empty, skip the field.
Regarding dates, there are no specific instructions for this. Just correct it to what it looks like on the image, they don't need to be standardized to anything specific.
I hope that I have covered all of your concerns. Thank you both once again.
I've been fixing it BUT IT IS A HUGE WASTE OF TIME. FIX THE PROGRAM. It would take 10 seconds
For state and county in the headers, you say to record what's actually written in the box. That's also what the instructions say in the help here:
1950 US Census Field Helps • FamilySearch
However, in the latest updates on this page:
1950 US Census Project: Updates, More Information, and FAQ (familysearch.org)
It says: "For the most part, you should type what you see and delete information that doesn’t belong. The computer standardized some of the place names, so those may not match exactly what you see on the image. Please keep place names that have been standardized as long as they are correct."
So which is it? Do we record what's actually written on the page, or leave what the AI has autocorrected?
@Fredelas from reddit, please follow the "Updated" instructions. That is great that you are making sure you are current in your review of updates! I should have put that in my instructions.
Header Review, a simple way to review the top of each page, also launched. For the most part, you should type what you see and delete information that doesn’t belong. The computer standardized some of the place names, so those may not match exactly what you see on the image. Please keep place names that have been standardized as long as they are correct.
