I am struggling to find records from Aruba. Would searching records from the Netherlands be the way to begin?

For civil registration records after 1831, you should be able to find them at https://wiewaswie.nl/

See the FamilySearch Wiki for more information: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Aruba_Civil_Registration

By coincidence, WieWasWie has recently published this article (in Dutch) about the available records from Aruba and the other Dutch islands of the Caribbean. https://www.wiewaswie.nl/nl/nieuws/op-zoek-naar-je-antilliaanse-roots/

The Aruban Governement also offers a dedicated website that accepts formal requests, for family-stamboom research as a payed service.

There is a FamilySearch Wiki page on Aruba. This may be also a good place to start.
