In Review Names, what do you do if the computer missed an obvious name, and what to do if the word selected by the computer is obviously not a name?
Yes, would like to know this also
Right now you can't do anything about missed names but when it indexes a name or word that is not a person's name go to the transcription error button in the bottom right corner of the screen, click then mark the name as NOT A Name. Unclick the top already clicked button at the top that says unreadable. Go back and submit that name.
Thanks for the help.
Why can't you click the transcription error flag and add a note that says a primary name was missed? It really doesn't make much sense the AI isn't finding ALL the names and that there is no way to report this as a transcription error. Why don't the folks who developed and announced this new opportunity to Get Involved answer these important questions?
@Melissa S Himes
You'll probably know this isn't the first time this has happened. A new feature is announced with a big fanfare, a few initial questions might be answered, then those responsible all go away and there is no one available to address the inevitable issues that are discovered soon after.
In thinking about this it occurs to me that we really do not know that any name has been skipped. We only know that our session of reviewing did not include every name. Someone else reviewing may well have gotten those names that you did not have for review.
@Paul W Actually, I've come to expect it and also that the people answering questions don't have experience in the projects. As for me, I have decided to stop answering questions in Indexing and leave it to the people who should be in charge. My experience will be useful elsewhere.
Whatever our "disagreements", I have always found you give excellent advice under the "Indexing" category. Sadly, those who could be of great help (especially the people who write the project instructions!) will continue to choose not to participate in Community. It will prove a great loss if you do stick to your decision and withdraw from giving advice to those struggling with their queries - both general and batch related.
@HarryBroxton, to respond to your question:
I am not asked to review most names on pages shown to me. Given the high frequency of words I am asked to review that are not names, I feel confident that all names are being indexed.
This Review Names system is training the AI and also training the reviewer at the same time. How that works is by a consensus process. They show the same scans to multiple reviewers and over time the responses by the reviewers reach consensus.
The AI does learn fast if it gets good responses. After 4 or 5 mistranslations this morning on a surname it never missed again.
