BIBLES with FAMILY RECORDS - AROUND THE WORLD

Here in North America, even from colonial times, it was quite common for
families to have kept a FAMILY BIBLE. with inscriptions documenting the
family births, deaths and marriages. This tradition lasted many
decades, even until the beginning of the 20th century in many cases.

In some other countries (especially those with British/German/Dutch classification)
this tradition has also prevailed in certain periods of time.

In other countries there have been other traditions and different ways of preserving
family records.

A few questions:

1) In your country of origin, nationality or ethnic origin, have records been kept in
family bibles?

2) What other similar traditions are you familiar with in terms of
to how families preserved their family vital records?

Feel free to check out the
INDEX OF "FAMILY BIBLES"
representing Bibles with family records that are found in all parts of the world.

Please let us know if you know of any records that we should add to the index.

I thought someone had asked this question before but I couldn't find the answer. Most religions in India do not have the practice of writing names in a sacred book. And the books usually do not last generations because of insects and humidity. Illiteracy is also an issue as is wide spread poverty. Do literate Hindus keep the Vedas or other texts in their homes and do they write family names in them? I asked one and he said they sometimes may have a scared book passed down but they do not have the practice of writing names in them.

A Memories Album with various Bibles and other records with connections to INDIA

Realize that even though INDIA is 80 percent Hindu and only about 2.3 % Christian (abt 25 million)

even with this low percentage one must realize there are more Christians in India then the entire population (regardless of faith) in all the Rocky Mountain states all combined.
