This article tells about it, gives the questions that were asked on it, how Family Search will develop the index... Artificial Intelligence will index it and we'll review it.

I don't see an article that tells about it. When will it happen?

The 1950 census is mentioned in this blog article:

Indexing reviews begin in April, in conjunction with Ancestry's automated indexing results.
The Blog link above posted January 30 says: "The release and publication of the 1950 United States census in April 2022 will be unlike any previous census publication. Thanks to powerful new processes and technical innovations, the searchable index to the 1950 census will be published sooner. This expedited schedule means you will be able to search for ancestors' names soon after the census records are released."

On 1 April 2022 the US National Archives (NARA) will release images and a computer-generated index of the entire 1950 US Census. FamilySearch Indexers can review the index as soon as FS is ready.

I know the 1950 Census will be available on 1 Apr. Can someone tell me when it will be available for indexing?
I would like to plan a 1950's Ward Party, but I do not want to plan it too early or too late.
Thanks you

Indexing will be done by AI.
Ancestry will create an initial automated index using machine learning algorithms and AI handwriting recognition technology.
In past years, thousands of indexing volunteers spent months or even years making census collections searchable. This year, Ancestry's sophisticated artificial intelligence and handwriting recognition technology will save time by creating an initial index from digital census images. While this index won’t be perfect, it will expedite the review and publication process to let you search for your family’s names in the 1950 census sooner after its release.

Instead of the traditional process of Indexing following by Reviewing, the computer will do the Indexing and humans will do Reviewing. This will be available under the "Get Involved" Tab.

I just want to know when it will be available for users to work with it. I would like to plan a ward party around it.

NARA will release the 1950 census on 1 April, and all digitization will be done by them before this date. Ancestry and FS should be able to start their Index/Review project almost immediately. I don't know when volunteers will be able to start reviewing names.

When reviewing names I find that the AI missed suffix information sometimes but there is no information on how to add this missing information. Any suggestions?

@Betty Solooki, When Reviewing names for the 1950 census, type the suffixes AI has missed next to the name ie Jones, Sr then hit submit

Does anyone know if the handwriting recognition software is available to the public? I've been really impressed with the accuracy, at least for the pages I've worked on, and I have stacks of handwritten family journals I've been wanting to digitize for a long time. The handwriting software I tried hasn't been very impressive so far, so I'd be interested to see if this software works any better for journals!
