Well, you were successful in posting this question in "Search", so perhaps you've figured it out?
To post a question in a particular category, go to that category by clicking it in the right-hand column, then click the blue "+Ask A Question" button at the top right.

No - it is literally the most opaque discussion forum I have ever used and if the message automagically found its way into the correct category then I assume the title is processed and auto-categorised because I had nothing to do with it lol.

The LONG way to access the 'Category' of "Search":
Either, 1 (which goes straight there); or, 2 (which goes through an EXTRA Step) ...
The EXTRA Step ...
Either way, the FINAL result ...
As an aside ...
Just so that you are aware ...
Once one has submitted, a post, in a particular 'Category'/'Area' ...
One CANNOT "Move" (or, "Transfer"), such post, to ANOTHER 'Category'/'Area' ...
Such can ONLY be done by either:
(1) "Admin" ( an "Administrator"; or, the "Community Manager", of this Forum ); or,
(2) "Moderators" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" ( Personnel ) ] ( within this Forum ).
ie Your TWO (x2) 'Post(s)', that you ORIGINALLY posted, in the 'Category' of "Indexing"; where, "Moved" to the 'Category' of "Search", by a "Moderator" (ie. As, indicated, in those particular posts).

Thanks Brett I get it... it just didn't make sense when I first looked at it.
I also made a small white-lie... it isn't the worst discussion interface I've used... that honour goes to the wikitree G2G forum.
