Image Printing issue -- Need Technical Support please
***** FamilySearch Technical Support Needed *****
This is an attempt to provide additional information on the print problem I am having on FamilySearch. My original message is at the end. For some time, I have been saving a census full-page image and its citation and index information to a PDF file using the PRINT button on the top right of the FS screen. This function worked well in the past but is no longer working correctly as explained below. I use the Microsoft-to-PDF pseudo print device to do this (I have tried other PDF print drivers and get the same results). I get the same results on a W10 PC and a W11 PC using the Edge (Chromium) browser.
The problem is that the image (let's say a full-page image of a census page) does not print out or if it does print out it is masked off. The print problem occurs about 95% of time I try it.
Here's a link to a FS page that has the type of information that I want to capture with the print button.
There are 3 files attached that show the results of my print attempts.
- Bad print image - image is partially present but is mostly masked out.
- Bad print image - image is completely masked out.
- Missing image - citation is present (normally follows image)
Please note that the citation and index info always print out correctly (they may not be visible in the above images). I did not adjust the image in any way. I did the print on the page as it was initially displayed. But note that adjusting the size of the full-page image doesn't seem to make any difference to the issue.
The bad prints can be put in to two categories. 1). The image is missing. The citation and index information print out. 2). The image is present but is completely or partially masked --- it's like the background is printing out on top of the image (or in other words, the image is being pushed behind the background). Citation and index info are OK.
I should note that I want to always print out a full-page image --- but if I zoom in on the image so that only a section of it is displayed, it usually always prints out correctly.
I hope this helps. I'd be happy to provide any additional information that I can.
Thank you, Frank
My original message text is shown below.
When trying to print a complete census page image using the on screen PRINT button it does not work about 95% of the time. I'm printing to a Microsoft-to-PDF device, but I believe the results are the same if I print to an actual printer. I've tried to print on two PCs and gotten the same results. The result I'm looking for is a PDF doc with the full-size image, its citation, and the index information. This printing process has worked well in past but has become unreliable recently. Instead of getting the desired doc, I get either the citation and index info only (no image) OR I get the complete doc, but the image is masked out (it looks like the screen background is on top and image is below it). I want to capture the image as a full-size image, but if I zoom in to a section of the image, the print process usually works fine. I tried zooming in and out of the full image, but haven't found any setting where the print function works reliably. I've tried 3 different PDF print devices --- all give the same results. Any solution or workaround will be appreciated. Thank you.
Both PCs are running W10 and the browser is Microsoft Edge (Chromium) --- both with latest updates.
