How do I index the (moro) names used in the Philippines Enlisted/Officer Muster Rolls?
I assume the word Moro (moro) would not be listed as either a surname or given name and that the only name used would be indexed as a surname.
ie; Canotonin, (moro) would be indexed as:
Surname: Canotonin
Given Name: (blank)

Do you think that every male in the family would have the surname of Canotonin, or would that be the name of one individual?
If it is an individual name, then it should be indexed as a given name. If it is a family name, then it would indexed as a surname. Personally, I would have to index Canotonin as a given name based on the rules.

Moro appears to mean Muslim so would not be indexed. If we had the Shared batch code we could be more confident in our answer. It is the 7 numbers and letters after the Project Name, starting with the letter 'M' and in brackets.

Please post the (Share) Batch Code - the combination letters and numbers at the end of the batch name that begins with M. It looks like [MXXX-XXX]! With it, someone can look at your question in context (open your batch) and will best be able to help you.

The word Moro is a term and it would not be indexed.
The field Help for Given names indicates: Do not include titles, terms, prefixes, or suffixes with the name.

I know the background of the word (moro). The question was how is the name indexed. Surname or Given Name. The rules state that if you don't know, then the name should be indexed as the Given Name. I believe a name with a (moro) designation would be indexed as the Surname as the Moros only have one name.
