Needing Help Finding My Ancestor

@Graham Buckell

I am looking for the date and birth place for a Thomas Carter b. about 1630 in England, possibly in Leicestershire or Warwickshire. His father might be Edward Carter. This Thomas may link to Thomas Carter of Lancaster, Virginia who died in 1700 'about 70 years old' and states he is 'of Barford' without identifying the reason for this designation, but probably his origin in England. He named his first son Edward.

Any clues will be appreciated.

    Unfortunately you are facing a near impossible task. Back in the 1600s it is usually extremely difficult to track someone who moved a few miles let along across an ocean! The situation is made worse by the frequency of the names Thomas and Carter.

    One can search in FamilySearch historical records to find possible matches. For example, searching Leicestershire I found the following

    For some reason I cannot post the link so it may not work if you click on it. If not copy and paste it into your browser. The details are

    A good match for your information but I would hazard a guess that the chances of being the one you are looking for are no more than 10%. Note that this is in the era of the old calendar and so is effectively 1630.

    Sometimes a way to break through a block like this is to find a DNA match with someone descended from a sibling. Unfortunately the possibility of this working becomes less as you go back generations. The chances of a match that far back are extremely remote.

    Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

    Regards
