I understand that Simon was baptised during the late 1970's but was active only for a short time.
Now that he is deceased I can't find a church record that I can merge with to show his baptismal status
Since you do not believe that his death was where he was baptized and the ward clerk would not know him, please see the below information. Hopefully using these steps you will be able to get results. The article below also has suggestions for you to reserve the ordinances.
@carol.cottrell1.5567387728528044E12, just to expand on the suggestion that @PMLynch gave you, and to respond to you most recent comment. You can contact your Ward Clerk and ask him to bring the membership record of your family member, Simon James Clough (L5JG-BPX), into your ward. The Ward Clerk can do that, and then with the supporting documentation, that you should have, for Simon's death, he can enter the death information. An obituary or funeral program would certainly suffice.
The Ward Clerk can enter the death information on Simon's membership record, which then goes back to Church headquarters, and then FamilySearch should then show a record for him that contains his baptism information.
I hope that this helps.
Sorry you cannot find a church record, It would be helpful to contact the ward clerk of his ward with his death certificate so the church record can be updated first of all.
I don't think his records would have been in the area where he died.
Simon James Clough L5JG-BPX has a duplicate with the information you seek. KWBZ-Q73
Please review these two records and merge if correct.
Also, in the record KWBZ-Q73, his Birthdate is not standard, A possible is:
Newport, Monmouthshsire, Wales, United Kingdom. Making this correction should help to make the other ordinances able to reserve, but may need permission.
RE: duplicate message; Please make the correction in the Birthplace before doing the merge.

If you need help with this process, please private message me, we may try a phone call. I would need your phone number and time to call as I am in US Pacific Time.
I have also been working with member support and sent them confirmation of the death yesterday, they informed me that the church record would be available for me to merge by today. Thanks for all the help from both member support & Familysearch support
