I'm not sure there is a group that is India-focused currently. But depending on what you're looking for, this group is probably a good place to start, if only because I imagine your experience may be similar to other Asian areas who were also heavily influenced by colonialism.

I am looking for the ancestors of the Munger family that left Punjab and came to the U.S. in 1963. The father was born in India in 1917. Is there a group that can help me know where to look for his birth and marriage records. His children were also born in Punjab in the 1950's and 1960's.

Also, do you have any information on their immigration in 1963? Have you searched immigration records? They often give an immense amount of information regarding where they traveled from, who a relative in their home country is, and where they last resided. If they applied for citizenship, that is an even greater wealth of information as well.
