I have found some abbreviations (J.D and J.M) on Marriage records which I am not certain what they mean. Hoping someone may know.

The couple I am researching are Antoni Blom (J.M) and Catrina Schook (J.D). I have found the church registry for the marriage, but I am trying to find out what these abbreviations mean.

Thanks for any help - Carl

JM means Jong Man, which literally means young man but in this context means bachelor. JD means Jong Dochter, literally Young Daughter but in this context Spinster.

JM and JD are commonly used in pre-1811 marriage records in the Netherlands. The other commonly used abbreviation is Wed. for widow(er).

Thank you for the clarification. When I first started seeing them I thought it may be an abbreviation for a certain town.
