Who can I request and do the ordinances for?

I just read the information titled "Individuals for whom I can request temple ordinances." I am now scared that I will do ordinances that I am not allowed to. I have been finding many people that may or may not be closely related. If I click on "view my relationship" and it shows the relationship, does that mean I can request and do the ordinances? I remember one was "your wife's 11th cousin twice removed." Would it be permissible to request and do the ordinances? What is the easiest was to know who I can do the work for?

Thanks, Doug Duncan

Rule of thumb is the  "view my relationship" and it shows the relationship, then go ahead and complete the ordinances.

Thank you for posting your question in the Community about individuals you can request ordinances for. You state that "View my relationship" shows you related. If Family Tree shows a relationship, you can request the ordinances. Here is a list:

You are responsible to submit names of the individuals below:

    1. Immediate family members (spouse, children, siblings, and parents).
    2. Direct-line ancestors (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on, and their families).

You can also submit the names of the individuals below:

    1. Biological, adoptive, and foster family lines connected to your family.
    2. Collateral family lines (uncles, aunts, cousins, and their families).
    3. Descendants of your ancestors.
    4. Your own descendants.
    5. Possible ancestors, meaning individuals who have a probable family relationship that cannot be verified because the records are inadequate, such as those who have the same last name and resided in the same area as your known ancestors.

In some cases you may see "Permission Required", which means you need to contact a living spouse, parent, sibling, or child, and get their written permission. The following article link will explain.

Wishing you success in requesting ordinances.

The last sentence should read: "What is the easiest way to know who I can request and do the ordinances for?"
