Why are we restricted to only printing one endowment?

This sounds like a SLC solution where members only live 1/2 block from the temple and only go once a month. Many of us in the mission field have long distances to travel. Because of this we generally do more than one session. Being told to go home and print out another endowment sheet and return to the temple is not practical because of the distance and cost of travel. We avoid the cost and travel by attending back to back endowments which we can no longer do as the program restricts us and only allows us to print out 1 form at a time. Please consider removing the restriction--it is creating a lot of work and travel that is frustrating and appears to be a bad decision on someone part.

    @kaylymandavis1

    FYI

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happend to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    You are not alone ...

    And, Better still ...

RETURN, the "Temple" Cards, after EACH "Ordinance" session ...

And, allow us to RETAIN the "Temple" Cards after ALL the "Ordinances" have been "Completed", if we so desire.

The RETUN of the "Temple" Cards, after EACH "Ordinance" session, would certainly alleviate your particular problem/issue.

And, it makes it So MUCH harder, when the "Temples", will now NOT "Print" the "Temple" Cards, for the NEXT prerequisite "Ordinance".

The "Policy" of the non-return of "Temple" Cards, after EACH "Ordinance" session, NEEDS to be REVIEWED; and, SCRAPPED.

There SHOULD be a RETURN of the "Temple" Cards, after EACH "Ordinance" session, if a Patron so desires.

    Furthermore ...

Some, maybe many, DO NOT, like; or, appreciate, that the "Temple" Cards are NOT being "Returned" after the "Completion" of the "Ordinance" Work"; and, then, subsequent processing/recording.

Some, maybe many, WANT, to RETAIN the "Temple" Cards, after ALL the Work is "Completed" as a "Keepsake". Unfortunately, we can no longer to that.

We have been advised, that the main reasons, why the "Temple" Cards, are NOT being RETURNED, after the "Completion" of the "Ordinance" Work"; and, then, subsequent processing/recording are:

    (1) To enable "Secondary" Processing of the Cards, to ensure the Cards have actually been recorded; and,

    (2) In SOME "Temples', ONLY about 6% of the "Temple" Cards, that were "Completed" and "Processed", were actually being "Collected" by Patrons. My understanding is that, that 6% relates to mainly the "Temples" in the "Utah Valley" (and, possibly some of the larger "Temples" in the USA). Unfortunately, the non-return of Cards has been applied to ALL "Temples" world-wide.

There has also been the reason proffered that the non-return of the Cards, would take the "Pressure" of "Temple" Workers, in getting Cards processed and recorded.

The decision is an really an administrative one; but, one that has been ratified and "Authorized".

Here is a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

Do temples still return family name cards?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/do-temples-still-return-family-name-cards

    Just some insight.

    And ...

Just for some 'light' bedtime reading ...

This has been previously, discussed; and, debated, at length in the OLD 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum ...

Here are just a couple of the old (legacy) posts in the OLD 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum on this matter ...

Bad Idea! New temple policy not to return any cards to patrons.

I know that this does not help; but, I hope this gives you some more perspective.

I am basing my response on the assumption that you are referring to Ordinances Ready. You are correct, Ordinances Ready is the wrong tool to be using in your situation. It is designed for people who have few to no ordinances needing completion in their close family lines but still want to take the name of a distant cousin to the temple rather than a completely random temple issued name.

Instead of using Ordinances Ready which gives just that one name, look through you family lines to find work that is needed, add those names to your reservation list, and print as many names as you need for one trip to the temple. Do use the tools provided in Family Tree to make this more efficient.

One such tool is the Fan Chart. Go to a part of the tree where you know work needs to be done and start the fan chart with a direct ancestor. Set the fan chart to show ordinance status:

Another tool is the Descendancy pedigree. Go back several generations from yourself and view the chart with the temple icon set to show:

You can even make use of Ordinances Ready for this.

    1. Go into Ordinances Ready and find one endowment.
    2. Do not reserve that endowment yet.
    3. Copy the ID number of the person presented.
    4. Go to that person's page in Family Tree using Find by ID
    5. Check that you are really related to that person and how. Ordinances Ready will give you people you have no relationship to if it can't find anyone else. This is just like getting a name from temple when you are there.
    6. Assuming you are related and authorized to reserve and complete ordinances for the person in the usual way, check the person's siblings, parents, cousins and other descendants that you are also related to. You will likely find multiple people in that extended group that need ordinances completed.
    7. Reserve as many of these as you can complete in a couple of temple trips. You will probably need to get baptisms and confirmations done for a lot of these.
    8. Print out as many cards from your reservation lists as you can complete when your next temple trip comes up.

A fourth option is to find a area of your family that is missing branches. Do original research to add a bunch of names to Family Tree, reserving the ordinances as you add them so they are available on your reservation list to print out for your next temple trip.

The final option, of course, is to use Ordinances Ready to find that one name then for the rest of the trip serve your 50th cousins by completing endowments they have shared with the temples by just completing the work for a name the temple gives you.

these are great answers however they overlook the idea that the computer is able to do this much more effectively than i can without having to jump through hoop after hoop. What i don't understand is why we can't do what we used to be able todo in printing out multiple cards. Surely if there is a way around it the program can be adjusted to be a more effective tool instead of creating more work for us. I would much rather do research than trying to figure out how to circumvent a program.

The purpose of Ordinances Ready is to provide the number of names for each ordinances per one temple session (per logged in user's sex) based on the numbers the temple department sets for each of those sessions.

For baptisms/confirmations the number is currently 4.

For initiatory it is currently 5.

For endowment it is only 1 - since you can only do 1 name per endowment session.

For Sealing to Parents it is 10.

For Sealing to Spouse it is 5.

As Gordon mentioned above, you do not need to use this tool. You can use other methods for obtaining ordinances, and then print them from your "My Reservations" list.

Also, while temples are in the limited phases, you are only able to make one appointment at a time for each ordinance type. Once that ordinance is complete, you can make another appointment.

One suggestion you can try is to use Ordinances Ready to get one endowment. Then you can look at how you are related to that individual and see if there are other people in that person's immediate family that you are also related to that are also in need of the same ordinance and then reserve it and print it from the "My Reservations" section on the Temple tab.

Another suggestion is to reserve 5 initiatory and 1 endowment. Make an initiatory appointment and an endowment appointment on the same day. Then after that day, look up the 5 names you did the initiatory for and see if you are able to reserve their endowments. If so, you will then have 5 available endowments for the next time you attend the temple.

If you have a spouse, both you and your spouse can make one endowment appointment at a time that include both of you. So you could in effect do 2 endowment sessions on one day during the limited phases of the temples.

what you say may be true but for those of us that travel to temples doing more than one endowment per trip is not only feasible but also necessary. We are able to schedule more than one endowment per day. Why then are we not able to print more than one endowment per day? It doesn't make sense to go to the temple, do an endowment, run back home and print out another endowment sheet and return to the temple to do another endowment.
