I looked at the first one. I see record hints for his death record and the death records of 2 of his children, in which he is mentioned.

I looked at the first two id numbers you gave. The death certificate is for Benjamin Tanner's daughter, Catherine. Because Catherine's parents are named on her death certificate it came up as a hint for the parents too. Is this what is confusing you? I attached the death certificate to both the parents and the daughter. Barbara Holm
Yes, as Dellory and Barbara have noted, death certificates (if you are lucky) name the deceased person's spouse and parents. These vital records are important in proving relationships and so you would want to attach the certificate as a source to each of the persons mentioned.
Keep in mind that while a death certificate is a primary source for the deceased, it is a secondary source for the person's parents. The accuracy of the information for the deceased's parents would be dependent upon the informant.

Secondary sources are documents, oral accounts, and records that are created some length of time after the event or for which information is supplied by someone who wasn't an eyewitness to the event. A secondary source can also be a person who was an eyewitness to the event but recalls it after significant time passes.
Of course, this information is extraneous to your original question -- but the record hinting function in Family Tree is designed to capture each individual's name in a document.
