I am trying to locate my great grandfather Francesco Sicari (could also be known as Francisco). He was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy in 1860 and fled to Argentina sometime after 1905 never to return.
@DT2020 The Research Wiki page about Argentina Genealogy might be a good place to start. It has information to help you understand how to research in the country. Be sure to also check out the many links. The Ask the Community Link will point you to groups in this Community as well as Facebook Groups and some other organizations where you can get help.
Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ...
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Not that I can be of much help ...
That said ...
Have you tried the 'FamilySearch' "Research Wiki"?
Here are some articles from the "Research Wiki" on Argentina.
Argentina Record Finder
Argentina Research Tips and Strategies
Argentina Archives and Libraries
Argentina Church Records
Argentina Civil Registration
Argentina Church History
Argentina Emigration and Immigration
Perhaps, some of the links/URLs in those articles may help.
IF, you have not already; THEN, ...
You may wish to, "Join"; and, become a member, of a couple of 'Groups' in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, where you can just follow the posts or ask 'Questions'.
Here are a couple that include Argentina ...
I hope this helps.
Thank you SO SO much for your suggesions and links!!! It has opened up a lot of areas I can search. I did try the groups above - they were not much help. I am still a novice. I really appreciated your detailed answer. Good luck with your research also. Donna
We were All NEW once ...
I just hope those articles and links/URLs help/assist you.
Those 'Group(s)' are the place to ASK 'Questions' such as this of yours.
Some of the members of those 'Groups' may have a wealth of experience in that area; and, love to help/assist.
Such 'Group(s)' are more times than not, a better place for asking questions and receiving help/assistance.
This is what this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum is all about ...
Users/Patrons, HELPING / ASSISTING, Users/Patrons ...
I think you are correct regarding asking questions to the groups. I have been in many of the links and sites you suggested in your first reply. Many are in "Spanish" so I am unable to read or understand them. I will definitely try and get some help from someone in the groups who can understand Spanish. Thanking you once again.
I ONLY, speak; and, read, "English" ...
I have been helping Users/Patrons in a number of DIFFERENT "Languages" ...
[ Including: ... Ukrainian; and, Russian!!! ]
I simply use 'Google' "Translate", to, BOTH, "Read"; and, "Answer"/"Respond", to posts ...
In MANY of the 'Groups' other participants do the same.
You can post your 'Questions' in "English"; and, you will get "Answers"/"Responses" in, BOTH, "English"; and, other "Languages".
In those 'Groups', in "Languages", in other than "English", you can post yours 'Questions', in, BOTH, "English"; and, other "Languages" - best of both Worlds, so to speak.
I am pretty much the same - mostly read, write and speak English! LOL
I understand and speak a some Italian - which helps a little with Spanish. During my research over the past 8months I have discovered new cousins in Argentina and Italy and I have been using Google Translate - which has been a blessing to say the least! We have formed a chat group and we sometimes write everything 3 times - English, Spanish and Italian! It works. Thanks for the suggestion.
