City Directory Bog-down
I love doing the City Directories, and most of them are only 50-400 names so not a big deal. Sometimes one opens up that is much larger, and with the auto fill on surnames the computer really bogs down as it runs through all the names used already. For these bigger directory images, is it possible to a) turn off that auto fill so this doesn't happen, or b) instead of 2 full pages split it into two different images of 400-500 names each? I am working on one right now that has 8 columns, and I have completed 7 with 937 names so far. As I get to the later columns, it is taking 5-6 seconds for the computer to move to a new cell, and as a speed typist it is driving me crazy!!

You can turn off the auto-fill by clicking on Batch, Settings, and Auto-Complete. I always wait until the end to enter all of the Blanks in the fields that have nothing to index. It seems to help on the lag time a little.

Try switching to Form Entry Mode, and use the ruler (Data Entry>ShowcRuler) to keep track of where you are on the Image. That should minimize the problem related to the number of columns to be indexed, and let you move more quickly from Field to Field (I.e. cell to cell) within an Entry, and from Entry to Entry. Form Entry mode performs about the same (I.e. pretty briskly) no matter how many Entries need to be made (I.e. no matter the number of Records to be indexed). I use it almost exclusively for that and other reasons related to automation.

I was just coming to comment on the same thing--the lag time issue. For me, it not only lags for several long seconds, but it also jumps to other fields in the table with increasing frequency as more and more names are added. I just completed a batch with more than 400, and by the end every time I would tab it would send the cursor to a different line--sometimes even adjusting my table view because it had moved up so far. I will try turning off auto fill etc, but it would be wonderful if FamilySearch could do something about this problem.

Table mode is fairly impossible to use with this collection. There is just too much data. Column mode is second best and Form Entry Mode is the best when it comes to speed of data entry on these.
