This is the replacement for GetSatisfaction.
There currently is a "Stream" called Recent Discussions which I think is what don martin thomas wants.
However currently, as far as I can tell, the only way to access the link for Recent Discussions is to click on a post and you will see at the right of the webpage, under Quick Links, the link for "Recent Discussions" It seems to include both Questions from HelpCenter Categories and Ideas, but perhaps not Groups (unsure about the latter)
I thin this "Recent Discussions" link should be added to pages
and it should be a more general sort of title that is more meaningful to the general viewer such as "All recent Questions and Ideas posted". Why should something posted in Q and A be labelled a Discussion? I'm sure this must be FamilySearch jargon for something, but are these Community pages for the public generally or aimed at those who are familiar enough with FamilySearch to know the jargon?
With regards to the person selecting the category, I am not against this, but I believe there needs to be a lot more explanation of the MOST APPROPRIATE category to place something in.
For instance the FamilySearch website, main Page under Search there are heading Records, Images, FamilyTree, Genealogies, Catalog, Books, Research Wiki. Can you assume that everything mentioned here goes under Ideas/ Records(Searching and Viewing)? But I note there is a separate category for FamilyTree, so presumably everything relating to FamilyTree goes there, or does it? Ideas/General User interface says "How can we improve the look and feel of our products" Does this for instance include FamilyTree?
I know if I post an Idea I would like to post it where it has the most chance of it being noted by FamilySearch but mostly I am unsure which is the most appropriate.
See also https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/83421/is-this-it-of-is-something-else-coming#latest. Effectively, "don martin thomas" has illustrated the problem. I thought my comments on the issue had completely vanished, but he appears to have posted in two sections of "Ideas", in his uncertainty over where is the most appropriate place to post such matters.
Streamlining the whole of "Community" - including getting "Ideas" to have a format along the lines of the former GetSatisfaction.com forum - can't come soon enough. The present format seems to be totally confusing everyone except the developers and taking up far too much of our precious time in navigating a platform that is proving unwieldy.
In so many ways the "General Questions" category of the old community - along with the ability to either "loop in" / @mention a specific group - or move the post all together to a specific other group - - was so much more useful/efficient than what we have now.
and the opposite perspective for those of us - who spent so much time answering questions - that we now have a million and one places to go look for questions that need answering.
