In both the 1901 and 1906 census, Hans Christian's occupatin was identified as Baneformand. The best translation I seem to be able to come up with is Course Chairman. What was a Baneformand, and what did he do? Was the position connected to the church? https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid16079376

I've never heard of that occupation before. I would actually think it has something to do with the train though. Jernebane is railway.

Thank you. I would imagine you are correct because in 1890 the same man worked on the Struer Thy Banen (a railway line). It would still be nice to understand what the position of Baneformand was, although it seems maybe he was a foreman.

It means a track foreman or in other words a railway foreman.

Formand is foreman or supervisor. Baneformand could be a switch yard supervisor, or a supervisory position concerned with the train tracks, their operations and/or maintenance.
