Are late 1800's vital records from far western Ukraine available for searching? Specifically, what
I'm looking for a family Kojsza, 3 of whose children born 1876 to 1887 in Csap emigrated to USA 1899 to 1906.

Recent photos of Chop, Ukraine are on Charles site as memories. I coincidentally visited a friend in Chop, long before I realized the connection. I have NO documents or information beyond what I've shared on their records--they were clear "we are American now.

I suggest checking www.carpathianreflections.com, especially if your ancestors were Greek Catholic (Eastern rite but Western administration). The records that Catherine's site is based on all come from FamilySearch, but they're disorganized, unindexed, and cataloged in Cyrillic (which I can't read). I haven't checked whether Csap/Chop is covered, but it's worth a try -- Ukraine has very little available online, almost none of it indexed.

Thanks very much for a very excellent tip about www.carpathianreflections.com. That site has the objective to transcribe those records you mentioned. I plan to join in. The site says Ung county is included, which is were Csap is.
Just last night I discovered those records on FamilySearch -- yes, the catalog is in Cyrillic. I perused some of the records and found Cyrillic, Hungarian and Latin records. Apparently there are also German records.
