Where would records from Franzfeld, Yugoslavia be located now?
i am trying to find relatives from my deceased husband, Michael Balnoschan. His father's name was Michael Balnoschan and his Mother's maiden name was Jolan Juliane Gebhardt. The spelling is the American version, so I'm hoping you can help me find where to start looking.

So, records from the former Yugoslavia (at least in terms of Franzfeld or modern day Kačarevo), are usually held in the local municipality's historical archive. The archive for Kačarevo is in Pančevo municipality. For researchers, this is the contact information:

I would put your request over email in both English and Serbian (I use Google Translate for the latter). While I am unsure how much information can be sent over email (we've actually scheduled two trips to Vojvodina in the past in order to do in-person research), they should be able to confirm whether they have church records from Kačarevo over the span of years you're looking. One note: the Wikipedia entry for the village notes that almost all the Germans that arrived in Franzfeld were Protestant. You'll want to make sure that is explicit if your ancestors were German, as there are sure to be Roman Catholic and Orthodox records (due to Hungarian/Romanian populations on the one hand and Serbian on the other), but not sure about the Protestant records.

Thank you so much for your reply. This seems to fit the area for research that I need to do. I have my husband's birth certificate and other papers, which I cannot read. I do see the name of Karapebo on the birth certificate. I have an english transcript that was made after he and his Mother immigrated to America. It also looks as if the date of the birth certificate was not issued until 20 August 1953.
I was told it might be helpful to put these papers on this site but have been concerned about that.
I do need to figure out how to user the google translate. Would it be best to put both the original and translated copy on this site??
I appreciate your knowledge about how to find information.
I am now 80 years old and don't think I would accomplish much by going into unknown territory where I can't speak the language.
