I am looking for any information about a Constance (or Alice) Lester who lived at 424 Burnage Lane, Levenshulme, England. This would have been around 1937. I have a letter written by a German prisoner (taken by the rising Nazi government at the time)

Sorry -- the question was cut off.

At any rate, Alice or Constance was allegedly the daughter of Johann Dommermuth, who was writing to her from a German prison. He was, I believe, in jail for some sort of fraud. I've been looking for her and an unable to locate any concrete information. From two letters I have where she is mentioned, she was raised in an English boarding school starting at the age of 9. She was also mentioned as a theater/performer and lived at 59 Greek Street in the Theater Girl Club. I have been unable to find her in any of the Theater Girl Club records.

I *think* she may have been born in Berlin to a woman who may or may not have been married. The father was married to someone else (not Alice's mother) when she was born.

Hopefully this makes sense. I'm looking to find more information about her and am unsure where to look.

Any ideas?

There is a Constance Lester-Smith in Manchester, Lancashire County in 1939 and her death is recorded in 1995. Her birth is recorded as 27 September 1918.

    In the 1939 register:

    Constance Lester-Smith

81 Chorlton Cum Hardy Caldervale Avenue, Chorlton Cum Hardy, Manchester, Manchester C.B., Lancashire, England

This is five miles from the address you have

I hope that helps. The 1939 register is where you might find her. I only searched around Manchester.

Thank you! I was trying to see if there were perhaps directories from that time? Maybe I could cross reference the address with whoever lived there at the time? From my understanding she was a bit on her own there in London -- but I could be wrong.

No, she certainly doesn't seem to be away from relatives at Chorlton cum Hardy in 1939. I do not have a subscription to Find My Past but suggest (like me) you at least sign-up, so you can view their indexes free of charge. The one for the 1939 National Register has other Lester-Smith family members at the address shown above, viz. Florence 1880, Florence D. 1904, John 1910, Sidney 1912, William A 1905 (the figures being approximate years of birth). There were two other people living in the house at the time, but these are not shown in the record - if people are believed still to be alive, their names are redacted from the images / records. I hope this helps.
