I want to know more about paternal grandfather and where he came from

I am trying to do research on my family tree. I was adopted but I know who my biological parents are and have gotten as far as grandparents (digging brought up more for some of them but that is it. I can't find anything on my paternal grandfather except birth and death. His name was Michael Charles Derwart, he was born May 24 1941 and died June 17 2017. I can find his obituary but no birth records or anything, he may have been in foster care. I am waiting to find out if he had siblings, but if anyone might have a little information on him, or know how I can look I would appreciate it. He died in hanover/york pennsylvania area, and he was most likely born in baltimore md area, and he is a junior

I appreciate you finding this, and I know that he did have siblings that is part of my own look in to it. But that isn't the right Michael Charles Derwart and his obituary only mentions his wive's names (he remarried but biologically Evelyn Patricia Echo is my grandmother) and the number of siblings, 3 sisters that died before he did, kids and grandkids and great grandkids. I might just have to wait and see if I can find more from the people that I have contacted but I thought that I would try and throw out a line in case anyone can find more information because there really isn't anything I have found online

    OK

Did he have any sons they are easier to find

Not sure when birth info is released to the public there in Canada it is about 100 years

best bet is to try newspapers/census records/phone directories in the area where they lived

Have you stared a tree here or in Ancestry sometimes things will come up that you never thought of

    Good luck with your search

Thanks for the additional information. I have certainly learned the value of many eyes and ears searching for information.

This past week I have interacted with someone that is searching the same individual as I was. We have discovered that we have found great small parts to the story by ourselves. We found when we shared our tidbits that we found hundreds of documents about our shared relative. My brick wall totally crashed and I know more about this relative than all of my other relatives. I now have his bio from a newspaper from 1881. He was a performer and the article detailed where he was born, where his father was before he was born, where he traveled, who he traveled with, and lots of details about his professional life. These details opened up so many articles about the rest of his family.

Keep throwing us tidbits about your missing family and see if we can piece together more to help you make connections.

Tisha, one of the first things that I look at when someone lived in New York is FultonSearch.org. This is an online newspaper site. I have found such amazing pieces of information in old newspaper articles that I am always excited to check here. The newspapers are from New York, but I have found articles about people from many surrounding states. I have found very valuable clues that have given me just the right pieces of information to find my sought after individual in other records.

Has anyone else found anything amazing at FultonSearch.org?
