How do you find out how your adoption was done. In 1960 did it have to be done legally or could they just sign a child over to someone else?

I had wondered that myself. I think in some locations it might be easier to pass a child off to someone with less official paperwork. Sometimes, I have wondered about delayed birth certificate and why the birth was recorded later.

I am aware of people going to the doctor/hospital with an assumed name or using a different persons name. A birth that happened at home would not necessarily have been recorded at the time of birth. I could see how it would be easy to create new parents on a delayed certificate.

I believe looking at the DNA might give us the answer that we are seeking though.

Teresa, I apparently missed your comment on this thread.

Birth records were sometimes adulterated when an adoption occurred. Pennsylvania adoption records are sealed. Have you tried DNA?

Maybe some others in this group have some suggestions for you. I would like to encourage more communication between all of us. There are about 400 people in this group and everyone is welcome to give suggestions and to share ideas. I love to learn and gain new insights from others.
