Just thought that I would share an interesting free video about researching in Massachussetts:

Massachusetts: Researching in the Bay State

From its earliest days as the Massachusetts Bay Colony to statehood and up to the present, Massachusetts has kept prolific records and maintained extensive archives. Learn more about what records are available, where to find them,as well as some strategies for effectively researching your ancestors in the Bay State.

Thanks, Carolyn, for pointing out this very informative video. I just watched it and could hardly get all the great tips written fast enough. I may have to watch it again!

Thank you! I love to know that I have helped others. Did you notice that there are many free videos in the Ancestry Academy? FamilySearch has some great learning areas too. I am so happy that you benefited from this.

Have you checked out these ideas for Massachusetts? https://www.familysearch.org/blog/en?s=massachusetts&et_pb_searchform_submit=et_search_proccess&et_pb_include_posts=yes&et_pb_include_pages=yes

I don't think this is a free video, it requires a subscription to Ancestry.

Carolyn, Family Search has most of the early town records for MA digitised. Many of the towns have their own sites, too. My town started keeping excellent records in the 1640s, and they are on FS and the town site. If people go to the catalog or even google it, they’ll come up. I do it all the time for patrons.:)

Here’s one of the pages with links on info for MA research. The FS wiki really is great at providing info and links for each state. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Massachusetts,_United_States_Genealogy
