I am indexing virginia marriage records in the 1920s. In the brides parents fields, the clerk wrote the biological parents names and also squeezed in the adoptive parents names. Which names do I enter into my indexing form.

In order to provide the most accurate answer, it is best when asking a question about a particular batch to provide the share batch code. You can find the share batch code by clicking on the Share Batch icon on the toolbar, or by clicking on Help above the toolbar and selecting Share Batch. That way we can view the image in your batch, and access the Project Instructions and Field Helps.

For multiple parents, such as a set of birth parents and a set of adoptive parents, index only the current set of adoptive parents. We found this information in the Indexing Help Center. This is a useful tool you can use to find articles while indexing. If you do a search for “Parents” or “Multiple Parents” you will find an article titled “How should I index multiple spouses or parents?” We hope the indexing help center will be a valuable tool for you in your indexing efforts.
