Name update and other updates

I am divorced from my spouse and went into my FamilySearch profile to change my name. I can update all but my name at the top. How do I get that changed on my account?

Also my spouse (now ex) was put into my tree automatically from church membership records when we set up our accounts years ago. I am now re-married and would like my new husband connected to me directly, through church record, in other words, I don’t want to be creating a new person on FamilySearch. How do I go about getting my spouse’s church account connected to mine?

    Furthermore ...

Regarding "Living" individuals/persons in one's "Ancestral" Lines ...

[ In your particular case, particularly regarding your NEW (ie. Second) Spouse/Husband

    FYI

No other User/Patron can see ANY "Living" individuals/persons that were created by another User/Patron; as, they ONLY reside in the "Private Spaces" of the User/Patron who created them.

We CANNOT even see the ACTUAL Record in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' of our IMMEDIATE Family (eg. Spouse; Children; Parents; Siblings; ETC; Etc; etc) if they are "Living"; and, they have their own 'FamilySearch' Account.

Of course, you can create your "Living" Family members; and, record them in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; but, they will ONLY be seen by you:

▬ You cannot "Share" them with any other User/Patron.

▬ You cannot "Merge"/'Combine" them with any other "Living" individual/person residing in the "Private Spaces" of another User//Patron.

There is CURRENTLY no mechanism in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' for Users/Patrons, to "Share"; or, "give permission" to "Share", the "Living" individuals/persons in their own "Private Spaces" with/between other/another User(s)/Patron(s).

There are a myriad of "Privacy" Laws within the many various Countries and Unions throughout the World - it is a nightmare to negotiate.

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is used in many Countries and Unions throughout the World; and, as such, must adhere to the myriad of "Privacy" Laws throughout the World.

Hence, "Privacy" is one of the reasons that we cannot "Share" the "Living" individuals/persons in our own "Private Spaces" - it is NOT the ONLY reason; but, certainly has a bearing on the matter.

Another factor is that such would have to be 'Coded'/'Programmed' into the Programme that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

'Yes', these "Living" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' WILL, in fact, in many (most) cases will be "Duplicated" - unfortunately a necessary situation that currently cannot be avoided.

I know that there are "Duplicates" of the "Living" ME - at least, one for my Wife and each of our Children, not to mention my other ("Living") extended Family members.

Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch' in regard to "Private Spaces" and "Living" individuals/persons:

    I hope this helps, somewhat.

    Hello @DixonSharonLeAnn

To change your church account name you first go to your Ward or Stake Clerk. If they cannot accomplish the task you will need to contact a specialists department. I will private message you with the information.

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forun.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    [ And, I am a Member of the Church ... ]

    [ 1 ]

Provided that your are referring to the "Display Name" on the TOP 'right-hand-corner' of any page/screen ...

    Short Answer:

One's "Display Name", on the TOP 'right-hand-corner', of any page/screen, can be "Changed", through one's "Settings" in one's 'FamilySearch' Account.

    ie.

▬ Select the "Display Name", on the TOP 'right-hand-corner', of any page/screen

▬ On the resulting "Drop Down" Menu. Select the FIRST on the list = "Settings"

▬ Result, is the "Account" 'Tab'. First/Top item is "Name". Select "Edit", to the 'right-hand-side' of "Name".

▬ On the "Pop-Up" (ie. "Modal") 'Window (ie. "Name Edit"). Go the 'Bottom' record = Display Name (Private).

▬ Change the "Display Name" to what you want/prefer. Then "Save".

Remember: ONLY you the particular User/Patron 'sees' that "Display Name"

    ..................... [ NO Other User/Patron 'see' your "Display Name" }

    [ 2 ]

Short Answer: You HAVE to create a ("Living") DUPLIACTE of your NEW (ie. Second) Spouse/Husband.

There is NO other option. You CANNOT use the version of your NEW (ie. Second) Spouse/Husband from the Membership Record of the Church (or, their own 'FamilySearch' Account).

    I will elaborate shortly.

    I hope this helps.

“Provided that your are referring to the "Display Name" on the TOP 'right-hand-corner' of any page/screen ...”

No, I am speaking of the “Full Name” in settings. I have updated All other information allowed in the settings, but my full name is grayed out and will not allow edit.

As for my tree though… information used to be connected through the membership information. My ex-husband and our children were connected to me automatically. However it seems rules have changed, and I’m quite bummed that duplicate people have to be made now. I’m thankful that it’s a bit easier for the ones that have passed on, as just using the ID helps to prevent duplication.

    Sharon

    O.K., your "Full Name" ...

As you are a Member of the Church ...

That particular "Name", comes from your Membership Record in the Church ...

Such can ONLY be "Changed", on your Membership Record in the Church, through the Clerk of your Ward/Branch.

As a Member of the Church mine is exactly the same; and, so is that, of my Wife; and, our Children.

That "Full Name" that appears on one's Membership Record in the Church IS (usually) one's "Name" at Birth.

ie. NOT that of a (later) "Married" Name,

You CAN allow you "Full Name" to be "Public"; but, that said, I would suggest that one DOES NOT; and, leaves the status of one's "Full Name"; as, "Private".

    For example ...

The "Full Name" of my Wife, in (her) 'FamilySearch' {Account), is her "Name" at Birth, NOT her (later) "Married" Name.

I hope this also helps, somewhat.
