She was called Alice Maud pike she married became Birkenhead and after he died she remarried Thomas macklin wood. They lived in battersea south London mostly. We know she had dementia and was in a care home but it could have been a mental institution as we think around the 1950s but not sure where my uncle thinks possibly still south London. I just can’t find any death certificate and I have her birth certificate. Any help would be appreciated

    Hello @JaniceGilleland

I found the marriage of Alice Maud Pike to Percy James Birkenhead in 1899 at Lambeth, London, England:

    Alice Maud Pike

England and Wales Marriage Registration Index, 1837-2005

    District: Lambeth

    Name: Alice Maud Pike

    Marriage Date:1899

    Marriage Place: Lambeth, London, England

    Volume:1D

    Affiliate Line Number: 48

    Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun

    Registration Year:1899

    Possible Spouse: Percy James Birkenhead

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=alice%20maud&q.surname=pike&q.birthLikePlace=London%2C%20England&f.collectionId=2285732&count=20&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on

And, I found your record of your great-grandmother in Family Tree. The above marriage record is added as a source, but you haven't added Percy James Birkenhead as a spouse:

    Alice Maud Pike Wood

    1876 – Deceased • G846-QW2

(For your information, you will get better record hints if you enter just the person's maiden name in the last name field. Any married names can be entered in Other Information.)

This record includes the second spouse: Thomas Macklin Wood G846-QWW.

There is a record of the burial of an Alice Maud Wood, birth 1876 and burial 10 January 1956 at Brookwood Cemetery, Brookwood, Surrey. Is that your grandmother? I searched FamilySearch historical records from Alice Maud Pike Wood's person page and changed the last name to Wood.

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?treeref=G846-QW2&q.givenName=Alice%20Maud&q.surname=wood&q.birthLikePlace=Christchurch%2C%20Hampshire%2C%20England%2C%20United%20Kingdom&q.birthLikeDate.from=1874&q.birthLikeDate.to=1878&q.deathLikePlace=London%2C%20England%2C%20United%20Kingdom&count=20&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on

There is an entry in England and Wales Death Registration Index for Alice M Wood, age 80, died March quarter 1956 at Ealing, London, England; and another one for Alice M Wood. age 80, died March quarter 1956 at Surrey North Western, Surrey, England. (It seems more likely that the death registered in Surrey is the correct record, as there is the burial at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey.)

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?treeref=G846-QW2&q.givenName=Alice%20Maud&q.surname=wood&q.birthLikePlace=Christchurch%2C%20Hampshire%2C%20England%2C%20United%20Kingdom&q.birthLikeDate.from=1874&q.birthLikeDate.to=1878&q.deathLikePlace=London%2C%20England%2C%20United%20Kingdom&q.deathLikeDate.from=1956&q.deathLikeDate.to=1956&f.collectionId=2285341&count=20&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on

You would have to order the death certificates to be sure you had the right woman. It's best to order death certificates right from the General Records Office: https://www.gov.uk/research-family-history

We hope this helps you locate your great-grandmother's death information.
