about a death record
My ancestor Joseph John Spencer born 1848 in Battersea/ London LC5X-2JL.
I last have a record of him from the UK Census of 1911 where he lived with is wife Sarah at no 16 Victoria Street Batley Carr West Yorkshire UK.
My question is I have not found any death record for him, nothing at all about him since that Census. I am hoping that the 1921 Census may tell me if he is still
alive then which may further help my search.
What would some one do then to try to find more about his death.

Hi Christopher,
There may be a burial record, but finding it will be difficult. I would trawl through the freeBMD for death records from 1911-1950 say, and pick out any that might be applicable. Do it for just Joseph - he may not have his second name here. There is one in Nottingham which is where his children were brought up and maybe where some lived so he might be there - long shot: Dec Q 1920 SPENCER Joseph 73 Nottingham 7b 405.

thanks Paula for your help. Joseph was married in Nottingham in 1872 and had two children there and soon moved on to Sheffield and they had two more children born there.
they finally moved to Batley Carr with all the children in about 1892 and sadly all the children died quite young whilst living in Batley. So no connection to Nottingham his wife came from there but she has a death record of 1933 in Batley Carr. My theory about Joseph that he was a bricklayer and i recon he was working far away from his family home and died suddenly and was quickly cremated not allowing the family to record his death officially. so tracing is going to be very difficult.
