I have heard that my great great grandfather may have fought in the Civil War. How can I verify this

When in FamilySearch, in the upper right, to the left of your name, is a question mark in a circle. Click on it and type Civil War Genealogical Records. That would be a start. You could also Google Civil War Soldiers. There are sites that have complete lists of soldiers who fought on both sides. Best to you!
