Support Case: Extraction Records - Hidden Children
(This is a direct request for action by Support personnel. Comments by others are not required or expected but are welcome if you have some thoughts. I do ask that no one take any action on the Family Tree records discussed other than Support and that Support take only the action requested below.)
Please refer to the following three couples:
- Sigvard Bernt Starksen 27MD-B8Z / Marie Kleppe 27MD-B86
- Sigvald Bernt Olai Størksen 2713-75Z / Marie Jakobine Kleppe 2713-758
- Sigvard Størksen 2WMF-281 / Marie Kleppe 2WMF-2D9
As can be seen in the Change Logs each of these were imported into Family Tree in 2012 with just their names and their couple relationship, with no other information showing.
This is the typical appearance for extraction records created from a parish birth or christening record which were sent for temple work under the old 92 year rule. The child would have been older than 92 but younger than 110. The child may have had all ordinances completed, just baptism and confirmation, or just sealing to parents. Completion of the ordinances created records for the child in the IGI which would have contained the child’s name and birth/christening information and parents names. This IGI record was imported into Family Tree along with all the other IGI records.
When the 92 year rule was changed to the 110 year rule, Family Tree records derived from IGI records which were in turn derived from extraction records such as these in which the child was older than 92 but younger than 110 were hidden in Family Tree and are no longer viewable, leaving just the parents listed as seen in the records for the Sigvards and Maries listed above. Without having the name and dates for the children involved, it really is not possible to know for sure if one is looking at real duplicates for parents. This cannot be determined by names alone.
Please take a look at the hidden child associated each of the three couples above, confirm that these children are now over 110 years old, and un-block them so that they are once again visible in Family Tree. This will allow the families to be properly evaluated and merged if appropriate so that the Family Tree database can be improved in this small way and unnecessary repetition of temple work avoided.
Please do not do any merging. I will take care of that when I receive notice that the children’s records have been fixed. There is a fourth family that has a high likelihood of being the same as these three that I will merge everyone into when I am able to confirm they really are the same families.
