Thank you so much for your help, Marvin. I did have a general idea about ID numbers, but your link greatly expanded that understanding. The "J" looked like a right bracket to me. When informed by Kerrelbee it was a "J", using a magnifying glass, I could see how it could be a "J". My bad. If I had been more thoughtful, I would have considered that possibility.

My question at the moment is figuring out how to identify the man who adopted me when he married my mother. Following the steps on this webpage...

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-specify-biological-step-adopted-and-foster-relationships-in-family-tree

...I always end up on my biological father's page and never the page of the stepfather who adopted me, so I'm unable to make the change of the tag/type to "Step." Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    -- Brad

    Hello @BradSmith7

In Family Tree a child can have more than one set of parents. It sounds like you are listed as a child of your biological mother and biological father. Have you added your step-father as a spouse of your mother? If not, that would be the next step.

Then, you add yourself as a child to your step-father and biological mother. Once you have added yourself as a child to them - you go to the edit pencil next to your name and set the relationship type to your step-father as "step" per the instructions in the knowledge article you included in your question.

In case it's needed, here is the article about adding children to parents:

    Conversely, adding parents to children:

Wishing you the best as you work in Family Tree!
