Pedigree Charts Numbering

I am hoping that someone can help me out here. I use 6 generation pedigree charts. When I finish with the first chart, and go start with the second chart, I start with number 16 from page one. How do I number the rest of that chart?

most (pre-printed blank) charts come pre-numbered

as you note - on the first chart the last column of numbers are 16 thru 31

and then if a person was filling out the 2nd chart (it would start with the person 16 from the first chart)

but again - on most PRE-PRINTED charts - the number are always pre-printed at 1-31 - even if you use that for the the 2nd chart.

are you referring to a NON-preprinted pedigree generated from an application (that lets you adjust the numbers?)

even in Familysearch the generated pedigree charts come pre-numbered.

so I wonder if Im really correctly understanding what you are trying to ask.

So the second sheet that I am using is pre-printed but it is just like the first sheet. My question is this, on the 2nd sheet I would start with number 16, and then everything would double?

. . . and usually each succeeding pedigree after the 1st will have a phrase like

"Number 1 on this chart is the same as number 16 on your 1st chart" (for your 2nd pedigree)

and

"Number 1 on this chart is the same as numer 17 on your 1st chart" (for your 3rd pedigree)

all the way to your 17 chart - which will say

"Number 1 on this chart is the same as numer 31 on your 1st chart" (for your 17th pedigree)

which will take all your ancestral lines - two pedigrees back from you as the 1st person on your 1st chart.

the chart is prenumbered - same as the first (the numbers dont change)

- but your 2nd chart would say

"Number 1 on this chart is the same as number 16 on your 1st chart"

the person you start with on the 2nd chart - YES would be the person who was 16 on your first chart

but dont worry about the pre-printed numbers on the 2nd chart being the same preprinted numbers on the 1st chart - thats normal.

if you wanted to uniquely identify a person on the multiple pedigre charts

you could refer to them as following:

examples:

John Smith: Person 20 on Pedigree Chart #3

Jane Doe: Person 15 on Pedigree Chart #1

etc.

(thus any person would be the number of the chart (1,2,3 . . . ) - plus the number on the chart (always 1-31)

If, however, you were able compile a single chart that was more than 6 generations then the numbers would go beyond 31 for a single chart) - which is kind of what the original responder to your question was trying to state as to how the numbers are generated.

If you assume that for each chart you DONT start back at one again, but keep going, - then YES what they said is true

But most preprinted charfts start back at 1 each time - which is why I answered the way I did - which is different than what your original responder was explaining.

but normally you would NOT be adjusting the pre-printed numbers - they would always be 1-31.

also - if you end up with number 16-31 as the last numbers on your 1st pedigree

then you are dealing with a FIVE generatioon chart (not a six generation chart)
