Possible abbreviated name...
I'm doing some death record indexing and the given name of the person appears to be abbreviated. The name looks like it could be either "Win" or "Wm." (William could be a possible name). What makes me think that the name is abbreviated is that the last name of the person is 10 characters long. Another thing is that there isn't a dot where the "i" could be for 'Win' but there also seems to be a period after the first name. I'm guessing the person writing the record put the full last name to ensure the family could find the records for their genealogy. How should I fill in the name for this entry?

When indexing names, we always type what we see. Punctuation isn't necessary. The researcher gets to determine what an abbreviation stands for.
