should I do the temple work for a person that I suspect died shortly after birth?

I reserved the temple ordinances for Margaret Hannah Rutter GQ1C-2SQ . There was only a birth year and no sources. So I did some searching and found her family but could not find her in any census with her family after her birth. I found a birth and burial record with the same name and year but not names of parents so that I could positively identify it as her record. Should I do her work or go with my feeling that she did die shortly after birth and needs no work?

Yes, you should do her work. If you cannot prove that a person died before the age of 8, you are to assume that they lived past that age.

    Hi Vicki,

You have marked this child as deceased. Your feelings of this death must have been strong for you to do this. Marking someone as alive after they have been marked deceased is a process, so you will need proof now of her being alive, if you decide to go the other way.

My suggestion would be to leave as you have commenced and then if sources turn up otherwise. Changes can be made then.

    Hope this helps.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    As an aside ...

Here are TWO (x2) more "Sources", for "Margaret Hannah RUTTER" ( GQ1C-2SQ ), that you can ADD to her, to CONFIRM, both, her BIRTH; and, her Death, both in the SAME "Quarter" (Third = July; August; September) in 1897; and, in the SAME "Registration District" (Tynemooth in Northumberland, England).

As actually appears ( ie. is recorded ) in the 'Civil Registration' for, both, (1) "Birth"; and, (2) "Death", of the 'General Registry Office' ( GRO ) of 'England and Wales', being a "Source" in 'FamilySearch':

    [ 1 ] BIRTH ... https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2F7V-7QX?treeref=GQ1C-2SQ

    [ 2 ] DEATH ... https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2JYD-4SB?treeref=GQ1C-2SQ

    And ...

As appears in the 'On-Line' Search facility, of the 'Civil Registration' for, both, (1) "Birth"; and, (2) "Death", of the 'General Registry Office' ( GRO ) of 'England and Wales':

    [ 1 ] BIRTH ... which confirms Mother's 'Maiden' name of ... "LATTY"

    image.png

    [ 2 ] DEATH ... which confirms Age at Death ... "0" ( ie. Less than I Year of age )

    Good Luck.

    I hope this helps
