William Wandell (1807-1844) KJH3-3RK
I'm trying to find parents of William Wandell. He died young and left a pregnant widow with 8 other young children. He is buried in Seward Cemetery in Seward, Schohaire County, NY. I found a reference to his wedding in the Cherry Valley Gazette - July 13, 1828 William WANDELL, Columbia, to Sally LYKE, Sharon.
Too many have assigned Phillip Wandell born 1798 in Albany, NY as his father - which is impossible! Last I checked 9 year olds weren't fathering children.
Any ideas? I've tried everything Wandell I can find in the 1810 and 1820 census

It seems the best clue you have is the wedding announcement stating that William is living in Columbia in 1828. I'm assuming it is the town of Columbia and not the county, although both are less than 50 miles from Sharon, NY where the Lyke family lived. I have to say it would be hard to court a young lady from that far away in those days so you also have to think of possible ways that they met and eventually married. You are right that it is hard to come up with any Wandell's in censuses. None show up in the 1825 NY state census (the closest to their marriage year) in the town of Columbia or in the town of Sharon. In your search for land, probate, etc. records you would need to search three counties--Herkimer (Columbia township), Schohaire, and I would include Otsego because it's in between.
Wish I had more ideas, but let me know if you have further questions I can help with.
