Death 1880-1900
An ancestor of mine died between 1880 and 1900 in Bollinger County, Missouri. A FindAGrave contributor places her death (without sources) in November 1882 while many Ancestry.com member trees (also without sources) give November 1892. There is no headstone for her and the FindAGrave record is not placed in any cemetery because no burial information is known. I tried contacting the FindAGrave memorial manager and several of the Ancestry.com users for more information but did not receive a reply.
I've looked in the limited offerings of the pre-1910 Missouri death certificates and find nothing remotely matching her. I've also looked through the Bollinger County probate and will records but her husband's probate record suggests everything was in his name and was passed directly to their children when he died (and predeceased her). At any rate, there is no entry for her. This seems to be supported by the Bollinger County tax records which make no mention of her.
No Bollinger County newspapers from 1882 have yet been digitized but I did search newspapers from November 1882 - February 1883 in the communities of two of her children and one of her surviving sisters and did not find a mention of her death. I also looked in The Marble Hill Press from November 1892 - February 1893 and in the newspapers in the communities of her two children who lived outside the area but did not find anything there either. Since she would have been about 96 years old in 1892 and had nearly 100 living descendants in Bollinger County, I find it unlikely that there would have been no mention of her death.
Since I see no particular evidence to suggest she died specifically in November 1882 or November 1892, I suppose I need to consider widening the search. Along with that, I wondered if anyone had ideas of other resources to check.
