My father was sealed to his parents without my knowledge or permission. How did this happen?
My father, Charles Stuart MacIntosh, (ID # KWD5-N83) was born in 1922 so according to the 110 year rule, it should not have been possible for someone to do his temple work until 2032. Imagine my shock and dismay when I looked online today and discovered that a total stranger had sealed my dad to my grandparents - his parents. My family had not sealed my dad to his parents when our family got together to seal him to my mom and my mom to her parents in September 2017 in the Calgary temple, because his parents had not had their work done yet. And yet, a complete stranger did so , even though 110 years had not passed since his birth and my grandparents (his parents) still had not received their endowment.
With a severely disabled adult daughter who has great care needs and my husband's work schedule, it has not been possible for us to go to the temple often, but I never imagined that someone would scoop my father's name and seal him to his parents without my permission or even my knowledge. I have booked a time to do the endowment work for his parents and was looking forward to sealing my dad to his parents and was hurt to the core to discover that the work had already been done. It is terribly confusing to discover that names of my very close relatives have been accessed and reserved by complete strangers who have then gone ahead and done their work.
If people are looking for random names to take to the temple, can't they at least go back several generations so they are not robbing family members of the blessing of doing that work for their loved ones?
If there are systems in place to avoid having this happen, they clearly are not working. I personally have refrained from doing the work for my aunts because when I have asked my cousins for permission, they have not given it. I respect that. In the case of my dad, and some of my grandparents and great grand parents, I was not even given the consideration of being asked.
I would like an explanation for what happened in the case of my dad. I also would like to see more stringent regulations or systems put in place to enable family members to reserve the right to do the work for their loved ones. I know the system has changed multiple times and with the responsibility I have for meeting my daughter's needs I have not been able to keep up with all of the changes. I do not think it is right that when a person thinks they have reserved the right to do the work for their close family members, those names can be released to strangers to do their temple work without the knowledge of immediate family members.
I hope my concerns will be addressed as unfortunately, i fear there may be others who have experienced this heartache.
