Where can non-IPhone family history consultants find help for IPhone users?

Periodically we have patrons come to the family history center with an IPhone, on which they have saved a lot of pictures they want to upload to FamilySearch. Unless there happens to be a volunteer in the center at the time it's difficult to provide the assistance the Apple users need.

Is there a resource to which we can turn as non-Apple users to get basic "how to" information regarding FamilySearch, Family Tree and Memories?

Thank you for your assistance!

The directions are really basic and don't distinguish between IOS and Android. It seems really easy to upload photos from a phone. What kind of issues are you seeing?

You can upload memories from both the Memories mobile app and the Family Tree mobile app. Here is how you do it from the Memories mobile app:

    1. Tap the plus sign (+) in the circle.
    2. Tap Add Document or Add Photo.
    3. Choose between 2 options:
    • Select a file from your device, and tap Upload.
    • Use the camera feature to capture the content. Edit the photo, and tap Save.

Here's how you do it from the Family Tree mobile app:

    1. Tap on an individual to open the person detail page.
    2. Tap Memories.
    3. Tap the plus sign icon (+).
    4. Tap Add Document or Add Photo.
    5. Choose between 2 different options:
      • Select a file from your device, and tap Upload.
      • Use the camera feature to capture the content. Edit the photo, and tap Save.

Thank you for the update. The patron in question had not installed the FamilySearch app for IPhone on her phone. Once she installed it, the volunteer said the instructions were good enough to get her started on her project of uploading her photos.

I do like having some instructions available, though, as I have no idea how IPhone works with anything.

    j Britt Franklin,

We received your question about assisting quests with their iPhone

These steps may be helpful for quests when they come in for assistance with their iPhones .

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-operating-systems-do-the-familysearch-mobile-apps-require

To install and run the FamilySearch mobile apps, your device must have a supported operating system. The app may run on older operating systems, but you may not be able to update the app and get the newest features.

If you cannot update your device's operating system, you can try using FamilySearch.org using a web browser instead.

    Recommended

    Android

    • Operating system version 7.0 or higher
    • Google Play

    Apple

    • Operating system version 14 (iOS 14) or higher
    • Apps store

    Kindle

    • Operating system version Fire OS 6 or higher
    • Amazon Appstore for Android

Minimum for the Family Tree mobile app

The Family Tree mobile app must run on a device that runs the following:

    • Android: You must use Android 7.0 or higher. You must also use 3.3.0 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.
    • Apple: You must use iOS 11 or higher. You must also use version 3.6.7 or higher of the Family Tree mobile app.

The mobile app is still changing often enough that written instructions soon are out of date.

Does your FLH have a FS Zoom account, and are any other local FS users familiar with the FS Tree app? You can have them do a Zoom meeting together, with the patron sharing their phone display and the other person talking them through how to use it. Or they could meet in person over coffee somewhere with a free wifi connection.
