On December 26, 2020 a race was added by family search on John William Vest, Jr. ID#9NF1-TV4 in the other information section.
The are no reasons given and the census records I see the race is white.
@MelissaArthur1 In response to your seeing posting in Other Information of the race for John William Vest, Jr, the designation of Black appeared when a 1910 Census for a John W Vest was attached. It shows the race as Black.
We recommend you detach that source, then if necessary, you may also edit and correct Other Information. To detach that incorrect source.
If after detaching that Census , the information in Other Information is still in error , you may edit an correct it.
Thank you for your diligence in interest in having the information in Family Search correct.
There are 2 1910 census records attached to John William Vest Jr 9NF1-TV4
Race is Black on one family, white on the other.
You may detach the incorrect source & the incorrect race.
It would perhaps be best to create an ID for the other census & link it to the new ID.
I second the advice to create a page for the other John W. Vest. Also make pages for the other man's family members, and standardize place names and dates on all the profiles. Finally, add a note to the pages of both men:
Two men have the same name, about the same place, same time, same age, wife with same name. But they have different birth dates and there are 1910 census records for both families.
[add both PIDs]
Perhaps put similar notes on the pages of both wives.
This situation is more common than one might expect. In one of my projects there are at least 8 men with the same or nearly the same name.
